Jarman shoe company was founded by James Franklin Jarman and William Hatch Wemyss in 1924. As the company grew, Jarman Shoe company was renamed the General Shoe Company and Jarman shoes became a subsidiary. In 1959 the company took on its current name “Genesco.” Genesco was primarily a shoe manufacturing company but in 2002 decided to exit that business and reposition itself as a retailer. Genesco owns retailers and brands such as Journeys, Lids, Dockers Footwear, and underground station to name a few.
