George Henry Bass, the owner of a tannery in Wilton, Maine, embarked upon a career in shoemaking when he purchased shares of E.P. Packard & Co., (a local shoe manufacturer). He became the sole owner and changed the name of the company to G.H. Bass & Co. Since then, everyone from James Dean to Michael Jackson have been seen wearing G.H. Bass & Co. shoes. In 1987, the worlds largest shirt company Phillips-Van Heusen corporation acquired G.H. Bass (they also own Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Izod, and licenses to brands such as Sean John, Michael Kors, and BCBG to name a few). Take a tip back to 1954 with the trailmaster below.
