Why Tekashi 6ix9ine Is The Best Thing To Happen To Hip Hop In Years.

By now you’ve probably caught his Breakfast Club interview and  made up your mind about Tekashi 6ix9ine’s music as well as how you view him as a person.  Good or bad, for me as someone that not only deeply loves hip hop music and pretty much all genres of music passionately I’ll go on record to say that this young man is the best thing to happen to hip hop in years and here is why:

1. He makes good music & brings a special energy back to Hip Hop

Sure, this is subjective and open to criticism from older Hip Hop heads (I already know a lot of you hate his music and thats fine) but think back.   How many dudes have glorified violence in their music with an arrogance only someone very young could love and or made music that our parents probably thought was garbage?

What is the difference between Tekashi

Onyx, DMX and others  outside of appearance?

Ok, before everyone thinks I’m saying this young man is on the level of DMX -which IN NO WAY I’M SAYING- hear me out.  DMX was 28 when he dropped ‘Its dark and hell is hot’ and while I know the rebuttal to that would be that BIG was 22 when he dropped ‘Ready To Die’ my rebuttal of course would be that his style isn’t that of BIG and he is much younger than X who’s aggressive style he closely mirrors. At the very least  we should give him time and see where both him and his music evolve, who knows we may be surprised.

2. He’s charismatic

Maybe its a New York thing but for me where  I from, he reminds me of a lot of guys I grew up with (minus the multi colored hair and teeth).  He’s had to grow up fast and seen a side of life that many never escape. While I don’t condone the untouchable attitude, some of that you can’t teach a 21 year old (don’t believe me then go to a 21 and under club on a Thursday night)..  Everyone brings up the rainbow hair and the bright colored teeth but all that is really a neon sign for LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AND WATCH MY VIDEOS, which from the look of things is working.

3.) He’s anti bullying

In an age where kids are killing themselves from being bullied online about everything from race and religion to weight and appearance Tekashi sets the stage for others to look at him as the anti bully and for kids of this generation to embrace their individuality. He’s the complete opposite of what most people expect a hip hop artist to look like and thats a good thing so long as they take away the positive aspect of being themselves no matter the climate instead of violence.

4.) He’s very honest

In the 80’s and 90’s many artists faked the funk  which led to tracks  such as Jay-Z’s ‘Imaginery Player‘.  Not one time did he stutter step on any issues brought up or turn away from any questions and for the most part has pretty open about where he lives and how he lives.  “When I see’em in the streets I don’t see none of that, damn playboy where’s the Hummer at those ain’t Rolex diamonds, what you done to that?”  In the case of Tekashi these lyric’s don’t apply, for now atleast.

5.) He came from nothing and made himself into something

No cosigns.  Yea, its impressive and while many may point the finger that he went to the extreme to become noticed the end result -so far- is that of success.

With that said as an adult and a father I understand why many dislike him and like many in the industry wonder how long before someone making a threat acts on it.  You also have to wonder whether or not in an age of fan bases that get bored extremely quick will they get bored and move on leaving us to reminisce some day in the future on some post of a “what happened to him”. Unfortunately many of us have seen how stories like this have unfolded in the past and this is biggest issue surrounding him now. Many young artists of today,  have little to no knowledge of the genre they get paid from.  When you know your history you can better plan for your future and for Tekashi I hope he turns the bulk of the negative energy (because of course you can’t please everyone) into positive energy and learns from mistakes of hip hop past.
