The Kukini line is another in a long list of forward thinking designs that Nike created in the early 2000’s. While most will argue the first Nike Air Kukini is by and far the best, something about this release gave the initial model a run for its money. At $90 the 2003 model featured a complete European mesh upper, Internal Ecsaine midfoot underlay straps integrated with opposing Velcro closure system (was never a fan of velcro on my sneakers but this was one of those exceptions), full length Phylon midsole crafted into a skeletal and cut away footbed, midfoot shank and thin strips of BRS 1000 carbon rubber in only the essential footsrike zones. The midsole reminded me (in some ways) of the first Reebok Pump Fury, with a design to cut as much weight off the shoe as possible without sacrificing stability. Ultimately, the Kukini line would disappear and we would all be left wishing upon a star for a retro. Lets hope its sooner than later, for now check these gems out below!
