Picture, its 1992. Your walking through your local mall with OG heat on, fresh gear, and a pocket full of quarters. As you pass a pizzeria you arrive at the Arcade and all your familiar favorites are there, everything from Pac-Man to Street Fighter II. What’s different about this day from the other hundred visits to the arcade is that a new game has showed up, its called Mortal Kombat. Your world has just changed. This game is just as good today as it was 19 years ago. People would line up one behind the other at a chance to fight the winner of the previous match, pumping tons of money into these machines. I remember walking a quarter of a mile in a blizzard with one of my good friends to play this classic at a local video rental spot. We thought we were the only two idiots that would show up, we were wrong. There was a group already there. It was ok though, because as soon as we got on, we never got off, no one could beat either one of us. The most humiliating fatality? Johnny Cage knocking your head off, and then punching you in the crotch only to see your head return (there were a lot of glitches in the game). Good times. When the game finally showed up for Super Nintendo I was in Mortal Kombat heaven, that was until I realized the game was censored due to its violence. Genesis had a code you could use to unlock red blood and the legit fatalities however the graphics weren’t as on par to the graphics of the arcade as Super Nintendo was. Nonetheless I still enjoyed many MANY hours playing this legendary game. Check out the fatalities in the video below.
