Schools In Session: Internet Sneaker Culture Part 13 Philips Web Page

Its been a while folks but we’re back. For part 12 we looked back at Swooshtown and for part 13 we are looking back at Philips Web Page. I remember stumbling upon this great site in late 99/very early 2000. What initially  grabbed my attention was the use of the TL, MX, and ZM logo’s in his own banner as I was expecting shoes from each respective collection and the site didn’t disappoint.  Phillip gathered photo’s from other sites mixed in with scans and photo’s taken by himself beginning with shoes like the Air Max 97

all the way through the Nike Air Sunder Max.  Now, although the site is primarily Nike/Jordan you could also find  Reebok’s (mainly Iverson’s) and Adidas.  Check out those rare flava’s of the Question Mid!

philqlowcfaWhat I really enjoyed about this site though was the Jordan section, specifically the area dedicated to the Jordan XIV.  This was during the super early days of the retro boom when the IV had just dropped and the V’s were scheduled to release early on in 2000.  The XIV at that point was still much loved and the XV? Not so much.

Last but not least was Philips message board.   Here you could post kicks you were looking for as well as drop info on new releases or post questions.  The message board did have some life to it but it was very short lived.  Although there was a promise of coming back to the site to maybe update things it never seemed to happen.  Instead what we were left with was remnants of the earliest part

of sneaker culture, right when it was building up for a mega pop to the mainstream.   Do you remember Phillips Web page?  Drop a comment and share the memories!
